A DaVinci Resolve Manual for Independent Users: The Case for Better Documentation

As a software developer, I've always believed that clear documentation is essential for any expensive program to be truly user-friendly. Unfortunately, my experience with DaVinci Resolve 15 has been marred by a lack of comprehensive documentation, which makes it harder than necessary to learn and use.

The free version of the software is great in its capabilities, but when you're willing to pay $299 for independent use, you expect more. Specifically, you expect clear and concise instructions on how to get the most out of your investment.

In my case, I've had to rely on YouTube tutorials to learn the ropes, which can be frustrating and time-consuming. Even worse, many of these tutorials are poorly written or focused on a single example, leaving users to figure things out for themselves.

The beta edition of the Resolve 12 User Manual is included with the installation, but it's not enough to make up for the lack of clear documentation within the program itself. As an independent software developer, I find it absurd that DaVinci Resolve is harder to learn than something like Blender, which has well-written documentation.

It's as if Blackmagic Design values obscurity over ease of use, in order to capitalize on selling learning videos and tutorials. This approach not only frustrates users but also undermines the potential of the software itself.

In conclusion, I urge Blackmagic Design to prioritize creating a comprehensive DaVinci Resolve manual that can be easily accessed within the program. With better documentation, independent users like myself would have an easier time getting started with the software and unlocking its full potential.
